چکیده

This paper provides an investigation of power distribution network (PDN) performance by a full-wave prediction tool and by experimental measurements. A set of six real boards characterized by increasing complexity is considered in order to establish a solid base for behaviour understanding of printed circuit boards. How the growing complexity impacts on the board performance is investigated by measurements and by simulations. Strengths and weakness of PDN modeling by the full-wave software tool Microwave Studio are highlighted and discussed. key words: decoupling capacitor, integrated circuits (ICs), power distribution network (PDN), printed circuit board (PCB), radiated and conducted emission, SPICE circuit simulator

Controlling Power-Distribution-Plane Resonance in Multilayer Printed Circuit Boards

This paper describes the mechanisms of powerdistribution-plane resonance in multilayer printed circuit boards and the techniques to control the resonance. The powerdistribution-plane resonance is responsible for high-level emissions and circuit malfunctions. Controlling the resonance is an effective technique, so adequate characterization of the resonance is necessary to achieve control. The re...

Application of System-Level EM Modeling to High-Speed Digital IC Packages and PCB~s - Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transactions on

A system-level electromagnetic (EM) modeling tool combining a three-dimensional (3-D) full-wave finite-element EMfield analysis tool and a time-domain electric-circuit simulator is developed and applied to various geometries such as multilayer printed circuit boards (PCB’s), signal lines embedded in a PCB or package, and split power-distribution network. Since the signal integrity is a primary ...

A Novel Technique for Concurrent On & Off – Board EMI Analysis of Mixed RF-Digital Circuits via Hybrid Scattering Parameters

We propose a hybrid scattering parameter matrix for concurrent on & off – board EMI analysis of mixed RF-Digital Circuits. To start with, we first consider on–board EMI effects on digital circuits, particularly on an inverter to show the vulnerability of digital devices to RF interference and investigate both system and device level upsets due to adjacent EMI sources on Printed Circuit Boards (...
